Native Range

South America and Africa. Resident inVenezuela and neighbouring countries and much of southern Brazil, Bolivia, Paraguay and northern Argentina. In Africa it is resident over the entire continent including Madagascar south of the Sahara except for a region at the head of the White Nile and around Botswana.

Widely kept in captivity and escapes are not uncommon. As a non-migratory species, wild vagrants are unfeasible.
