Native Range

South America. Breeds in southern Chile and southern Argentina and winters farther north to about 35°S. A separate race breeds on the Falkland Isles.

Conservation Status

Least Concern

British Occurrence

NBN atlas has 62 records as at end 2024. Map Here.

One was at Auchlochan Pond, Lanarkshire in 2003/4 and one was seen at Nosterfield NR in N Yorks in January 2007.
