Asia. Breeds in southern Siberia, Mongolia and north China and winters in N and S Korea.

Conservation Status

Endangered

Widely distributed as a feral species in England, Wales and Scotland. Has bred in 2011 in Worcestershire.

Recorded at 19 sites during 2000-01. 18 at Etherow CP and 13 on Esthwaite Water

10 reports from Nottinghamshire between 1988 and 2004; mostly single birds in the Trent Valley but four at Burton Meadows in 1996 and eight at Lound GP in 2003

Also three at Bennerley in Sept 2022. (NP)
