Very commonly kept as a cage bird with inevitable escapes. NBN Atlas shows sightings throughout England and Wales mainly south of a Chester to Newcastle on Tyne line. One feeding a recently fledged chick at Wendover Woods, Buckinghamshire on 31st August 2010. A pair bred at Attenborough, Notts in 1981 and four birds were seen there in 1982.
