The humble chicken is the familiar form of the Red Junglefowl which was domesticated over 5,000 years ago. I don't know whether the native bird has escaped into the wild; the name "Red Junglefowl" is applied to both the ancestral stock and to feral populations derived from the domesticated forms. The hen Red Junglefowl is quite different in appearance to the domestic hen.
