Asia. SE Asia from NE India to SE China and soutwards across Indonesia, Sulawesi and the Phillipines.
British Occurence
The humble chicken is the familiar form of the Red Junglefowl which was domesticated over 5,000 years ago. I don't know whether the native bird has escaped into the wild. The hen Red Junglefowl is quite different in appearance to the domestic hen.
