Africa. Scattered over sub-Saharan Africa except for the south-west. The most contiguous grouping is in west Africa from Sierra Leone to Nigeria.

One trapped in the Heligoland trap at Landguard Bird Obs in Suffolk on 8th June 2002 was described as being in immaculate condition.
