Category D & E

Native Range

Asia. Breeds from the Caspian Sea area, eastwards to Kyrgystan and winters in India.

British Occurrence

Nottinghamshire has had two accepted records, both of males, in 1968 and 1976 with no suggesion that they were anything other than escapes.

Birds recorded on Fair Isle. July-August 1997 and another in Dumfries and Galloway in June 2004 were considered likely candidates for admittance to category A but the evidence was lacking and the species is in category D for future review. Another on Fair Isle in September 1985 was considered an escape and went into category E.
