House Finch Carpodacus mexicanus

Status.

Category E

Native Range

North America. Resident over much of the USA southwards into Mexico.

British Occurence

One was seen and photographed in Cornwall and Devon from May to October 2010. The identification was accepted but the record was placed in Category E and has not been admitted to the British List. It was found at a location and time that supported natural vagrancy but there were factors that cast doubt on it having been a wild bird in particular its carotenoid-deficient yellow plumage and the long duration of its stay. (BOURC 42nd Report)
