There have been multiple records of the species in Britain and it was on category A of the British List for many years but reviews have found that they were misidentifications, or were insufficiently documented or were probably escapes. The species has bred in the wild in the Peak District, North Yorkshire and the Forest of Bowland.

The breeding birds are persecuted and unreliable but the species is widely kept in many collections and also by falconry display businesses.
