BOURC Summary

Fair Isle, Shetland. 7-28 May 1985. The species was admitted to category A of the British List on the basis of this record but a review published in 1994 found only two reports west of 90°E suggesting that vagrancy was unlikely for the species and concluded that vagrancy in spring was especially unlikely. Furthermore the species was kept in captivity in Europe at the time and the species was transferred to category D. A 1998 record from Highland 24-27th September 1998 was of a probable adult whereas the two accepted West Palearctic records, from Norway and the Netherlands were of first-winter birds which are more likely vagrants.
