North and South America. Breeds in coastal Florida and and West Indies (resident on Hispaniola) and winters in northern South America.

This is an intriguing member of category E. There are no records on NBN and no mention of any British sightings on BirdGuides. But this species seems a highly likely vagrant to Europe as it migrates across the Caribbean Sea twice a year and, as a mostly insectivorous species will not do well in captivity.
