Introduced to England in 1791 and began breeding in the wild in 1902. Well established in the wild and a regular breeder with around 5-20 pairs annually. WEBS counts in 2010-11 recorded a maximum of 46. This reflects an ongoing decline in their numbers; The corresponding figure for 1999 was 156 and for 2003 it was 104.
